Friday Morning Brioche Shawl
As of Jan 18th, pattern is no longer free. The paid version has an expanded tutorial on the brioche knitting skills needed for this project.
****************************
A long and skinny triangular shawl, worked in single-color brioche. Reminiscent of a classic ribbed scarf, this is both more interesting to knit and wear: the ribs lie on the diagonal making for great drape, and the fabric is squishy and warm.
Suitable for knitters with a little bit of brioche experience, or a sense of adventure. It uses only one brioche stitch, so the learning curve isn’t steep.
The sample shown is worked an interesting gradient: all shades of bright orange. It would look just as good in a solid or semi-solid color, or even a speckle-effect colorway. I wouldn’t recommend a very busy variegated yarn, as you’d lose the definition of the ribs.
This is a knit-until-you’re-done design, and can be worked with any thickness of yarn.
In a chunkier yarn, this is a quick knit and a good way to use up a smaller quantity – sweater leftovers, perhaps? In a finer yarn – a skein of something too good for socks – this would be a great all-season accessory, a nice accent with a light jacket.
Suggested Yardage by Yarn Weight:
Chunky – 14-16 sts over 4 inches/10 cm in St st: 250 yds/230 m
Aran/Worsted – 18-20 sts over 4 inches/10 cm in St st: 300-350 yds/275-325m
DK/Sport – 22-26 sts over 4 inches/10 cm in St st: 350-400 yds/325-365 m
Fingering – 28+ sts over 4 inches/10 cm in St st: 400-450 yds/365-410 m
