Foxadolly
I designed Foxadolly due to demand from people loving my Yarnosaurus creatures, but requesting a fox. I could not keep up with the knitting demands, so have made my Foxadolly pattern available for you.
This is an achievable pattern for the beginner knitter who has learned some basic skills (such as increasing, decreasing and the correct way to wrap the wool to start and end a short row of intarsia.) The materials list is found in your basic craft room: DPNs (small straight needles are better for dollmaking); 8 ply wool of assorted colours; stuffing; cotton, needle and little buttons to sew on the eyes; tapestry needle for the seams and sewing the mouth. A thin length of ribbon for a necktie also adds pizazz.
Foxadolly has nine body parts – the main body with attached head (with an intarsia panel on his upper chest and face), two foxy ears, a nose, two arms with front paws, two legs with back paws and a beautifully shaped bushy tail with lighter tip. Stocking stitch is used throughout and shaping is achieved with increases and decreases. Russet brown and cream looks great, but I like to knit wild foxes too, so I have used teal tones, forest green colours and greys.
Foxadolly has a cheeky grin, a shaped tail for balance, a waist for little hands to clutch and the ability to sit by itself on a flat surface. 30cm (12”) high, Foxadolly is the perfect size for a little person to carry or a taller person to have as a travelling companion in a handbag or backpack. This hand held little friend makes a happy gift for a special person and is easy to look after as he does not eat much and has impeccable manners.
Be aware that you may have to watch him/her if you go on a day trip as he/she loves to chase bunnies and mice. Polyester stuffing is used, so hand washing Foxadolly gently is fine.
