Fallen branches had been gathered, and many hands had worked together to hewn and saw the dry, aged lumber. A new tradition steeped in history but reclaimed once again. The campfire, ready for the stories, billowed smoke into the overcast expanse above. Yesterday’s fallen snow had created a clean overlay on the ground. The perfect blank canvas for a tale of each trunk & branch that rose from the soil, the roots that interlaced beneath it, and generations of lives lived under it. The folk, from forest & town, sang their long-lost stories over the crackling warmth.

This pattern is inspired by the felling of the great aged maple that stood in front of my house. It was over 200 years old, and has two siblings that still stand today, far too wide for my warms to wrap around.

Folkstory is knit in the round from the bottom up. The torso and the sleeves are worked in the round separately, then joined together at the base of the yoke. The yoke is then worked in the round up to the neck.

For a layering/boyfriend fit, choose a size with approximately 2-4” of positive ease. For a “normal” sweater fit, choose a size with 2” of negative ease to no ease.
