Folk Star Mittens
Inspired by traditional Finnish knitting motifs and Nordic, winter pink sunsets, these lovely, warm, women’s mittens, are knitted in the round following a simple chart. They have a ribbed cuff and ‘peasant’ thumb.
They are knitted in a light Double Knitting (Fine, Sport Weight) pure wool yarn which knits up to a tension of 24sts and 32 rows per 10cm (4in). Available in one size, to fit a medium to large sized woman’s hand, they are 22cm (8½”) in circumference and 23cm (9″) in length. This particular pair is knitted in Riihivilla’s Aarni (100% wool; 120m (131 yd)/100g) pure Finn sheep yarn and requires 2 x 100gms, and a small amount of a third colour, to complete. This is a lovely yarn which is available in a range of delicate, otherworldly natural, plant and mushroom dyed shades which speak to you of far away snowy forests, delicate mosses, berries and trolls…
