Fogust
Almost every August morning the fog pools thickly across the west coast of mid- Vancouver Island. We call it “Fogust” and it’s the perfect time of year for a transitional lace accessories. This beret-style hat highlights the beauty of a self-striping yarn.
The finished hat is 16¾ (19, 21)”/ 42.5 (48.5, 53.5)cm at the brim and 7¾ (8½, 9½)”/ 19.5 (21.5, 24)cm deep. Choose a style with ~2”/ 5cm negative ease.
Materials:
1 skein Polka Dot Sheep Midwinter Worsted, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 215y/ 197m; 100g/ 3.5oz. Sample shown in Platinum.
Tools:
US 6 (4mm) 20”/ 50cm circular needle or needle size to obtain gauge; US 7 (4.5mm) 20”/ 50cm circular needle and double pointed needles or needle size to obtain gauge; stitch marker; tapestry needle.
Gauge:
16 sts/ 22 rnds over 4”/ 10cm in Chevron Lace in the round with larger needle, blocked.
Abbreviations:
Cdd – Slip 2 stitches together, k1, then pass slipped stitches over (centred 2 stitch decrease)
Inc – Increase
K – Knit
K2tog – Knit 2 together (right -leaning single decrease)
P – Purl
Rep – Repeat
Rnd(s) – Round(s)
Ssk – Slip, slip, knit (left-leaning single decrease)
St(s) – Stitch(es)
YO – Yarn over
