Flower Seller's Gloves
Fingerless gloves are inarguably useful for cool fall weather when you don’t want to commit to full fingered gloves or mittens. Whether you are outdoors or in a chilly vehicle they can certainly keep your hands warm while still allowing for full manual dexterity, especially if bare fingertips are needed.
I maintain, however, that fingerless gloves are also useful at any time of year, particularly for the many, many folks who work in overly air conditioned offices the world over.
I have spent decades working in such offices where I have had little to no control over the temperature and its always so, so cold (I asked once why this was the case when all of us who worked there were uncomfortably cold and was told it was to keep condensation from occurring in the computers). Thus, I always had an “office sweater” that I frequently donned when the AC was really blowing hard. This worked out pretty well except…. my poor hands were still freezing as I endeavored to keep on working at my computer. Eventually, I hit upon fingerless gloves as the perfect solution: just tuck a pair into your desk or bag and you are ready for the most Arctic of Arctic blasts of workplace AC.
These fingerless gloves are the perfect solution for chilly offices: snug on the back of the hand and palm while having no fingers or thumbs to impede movement. Great for using the computer, driving, knitting or any manual task requiring bare fingers and manual dexterity.
Yarn recommendations: a solid or lightly tonal yarn is the best choice here. Lighter colors will show the stitch pattern better. Variegated yarns will work if the colors are laid down in short runs or splotches.
