I developed this stitch pattern from a sweater in 1912 Fleisher’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual, p.155. I added a couple of rows to let the little diamond shapes stand out more. The pattern has 8 rows and a multiple of 11 sts +2 selvage sts.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance. A natural-fiber yarn might block flatter than my 77% acrylic swatch.

63 yards of Mary Maxim’s Natural Alpaca yarn will make 10 inches of a 35-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
