Fleece Navidad! Knit up some holiday cheer and then deck your hat with pops of color. This quick and cozy tree hat works up fast in bulky yarn, with sizes for both child and adult.

MATERIALS
Yarn: Bulky weight. Shown in PDS Big Sky Bulky in Seeley Lake. You will also need small bits in the same weight to decorate your tree with little “lights.”

  • 100 (120) yd.
  • 92 (110) m

Needles: Choose the needle type for your preferred method of small circumference knitting in the round (16 in / 40 cm circular, double pointed, magic loop etc.) in each of the following sizes:

  • US 8 / 5.0mm
  • US 9 / 5.5mm
  • US 10.5 / 6.5mm

Notions: (1) stitch marker, a tapestry needle, and a pom-pom maker approximately 1 ¼”.

SIZES
child (adult)

TO FIT HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE
If you are between sizes, make the larger size.

  • 17—20 (20—23)”
  • 43—51 (51—59) cm

NOTES

  • The distinctive tree shape relies heavily on strategic needle size changes throughout the pattern. Skipping this step will flatten the silhouette and compromise the overall structure. For bests results, follow the needle transitions as written—they’re essential to the magic.

  • If you’re unable to achieve gauge with the recommended US 10.5 needles, be sure to have one set each of the two next smaller sizes based on the needles you do meet gauge with. These additional sizes are essential for shaping and structure later in the pattern.

  • See the schematic for a quick reference of when to work your decreases and when to change needle sizes.

  • When decorating your tree, if the French Knot and you aren’t on speaking terms, you’re not alone. Try my Faux French Knot—same look, none of the fuss. CLICK HERE for Video Tutorial.
