FLAPPERY HAT

As a child in the 1980s, I distinctly remember wearing a knitted beret with earflaps. 
It was made for me by my Austrian grandmother, and was one of my favourite knits 
of all time. Wanting now to make a similar hat for my daughter - and perhaps a 
grown-up version for me as well! - I was rather surprised when I could not find 
 examples of hats in this style. The closest ancestors I’ve been able to trace are the traditional Jorbat hats of the Sami people. And indeed the earflap beret of my 
childhood seems to be a simplified, more urban offshoot of that design heritage. Recreating it from memory has been great fun. And the finished result feels just as 
 comfy and special to wear as I remember. 



Vintage inspired, playful, and re-imagined with a contemporary aesthetic - the 
Flappery Hat is all grown up and ready for a come-back!
