Firsthand
This is an easy pattern suitable for a beginner’s first project.
A garter stitch square is knitted sideways and seamed with a gap.
I don’t think it is an original concept but I’ve written it out as a (hopefully) very easy to follow pattern for teaching beginner classes.
One ball of normal DK yarn made the two mitts pictured plus plenty left over for practice swatches.
Gauge is not too critical as the knitter can try the mitt around his/her hand and the stretchy fabric has a lot of tolerance.
I have suggested a few yarns but really any yarn that gives nice stitch definition would do: I like beginners to get a feel for good quality yarns though and we used Clover bamboo needles.
