NEEDLES AND CROCHET HOOK

Size A: US5 / 3.75 circular needles (16”/ 40 cm) – or size to obtain gauge/desired fabric.
For crown shaping you can opt for DPNs or Magic Loop method.
Size B: US3 / 3.25 mm circular needles (16”/ 40 cm) – or 2 sizes smaller than Size A needles.
USE / 3.5 mm crochet hook

GAUGE

24 sts x 30 rounds to 4” / 10 cm in Semi-Twisted Rib on Size A needles, slightly stretched, after blocking.
21 sts x 24 rounds to 4” / 10 cm in Fisherman’s Rib on Size B needles, unstretched, after blocking.

Swatching will help ensure that you don’t get a loose fabric in Twisted Rib on Size A needle. You will go down 2 needle sizes to work in Fisherman’s Rib as this stitch pattern tends to expand a lot.

CONSTRUCTION

The double-layered hem is started with a provisional cast-on and worked in the round in simple rib on the lining, then in Fisherman’s Rib. The brim is folded and assembled and the body of the hat is worked in Semi-Twisted Rib. The crown is shaped with 4 sets of sleek decreases.
