Filip the French Frog

Filip the French Frog was my inspiration behind the #amigurumiworldfriends collection. I wanted animals from around the world and a French frog just seemed the perfect place to start.
The brief – long skinny legs, bright colours with a striped top and red scarf. Eyes that worked into the same piece as the head with embroidered vertical pupils. A simple, fast design to make as there are only a few pieces.
The yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Filip the French Frog is approximately 24cm tall (9 ½ inches).
Difficulty: Easy, US terminology
Materials:
- 2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted > Less than 50g yarn in GREEN, BLUE and WHITE
- BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- MR = magic ring
- sc = single crochet
- inc = single crochet increase (2 sc in one stitch)
- dec = decrease (sc 2 together)
- sl st = slip stitch
- BLO = back loops only
- (..) = repeat the space in brackets the given number of times
- .. = total number of stitches
Notes:
- A yarn with no stretch is best for amigurumi, I ordinarily use cotton or cotton blend.
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round (unless it says otherwise).
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- To change colours, I recommend that you change colour on the first row of the new round. That is, start the first stitch with the old colour and yarn over with the new colour and pull through the new colour. This will give a cleaner line for the stripes, in particular.
- For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o GREEN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 429 Lime Green o WHITE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 401 Paper White o BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 440 Sailor Blue o RED = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 414 Rose Red
- I have used embroidered the eyes for this pattern. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
