Festive Stockings
Past the Hinterlands and through the door adorned with a sparkling Christmas Tree lies Christmas Town, described by Art Director Deane Taylor as a place with a “kind of an old-fashioned Christmas-card feel.” Indeed, Christmas Town is vastly different from Jack’s scary Halloween Town. The “What’s This?” song that Jack sings upon discovering Christmas Town, was composer Danny Elfman’s way for Jack to stumble upon, “this wonderful new place.” The first completed sequence the production team animated and showed to Disney was seen by Visual Consultant Rick Heinrichs as, “A standalone… part of the film.” In contrast to Halloween Town with its bent perspective, Christmas Town relied on a much brighter palette, a softer, almost Dr. Suess feel, and a forced perspective, a technique used to make objects seem closer, farther, larger, or smaller using optical illusions.
What’s this? A holiday stocking featuring leading man Jack Skellington and his trusty dog Zero! Striking the perfect balance between traditional knitting motifs and Nightmarish characters, this is a stocking that all Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas fans will delight in this holiday season. Worked in the round from the toe up with a forethought heel placed while working the stranded colorwork motifs and finished once the rest of the knitting is complete, it’s topped with an easy 2x2 ribbed cuff to prevent rolling. An i-cord loop is added at the end for hanging. Make one in traditional holiday colors, Halloween colors, or any colors you chose!
