Yarn:

You will need 7 x 50g balls of yarn in each of 2 colours.

From the pattern description:

Add some fun to dining as well as padded practicality with this set of subtle-striped place settings. Easy to knit in a thick wool yarn, they are ‘finished off’ in the washing achine to achieve their felted appearance.

The basic fabric for this could not be easier than garter stitch with no shaping involved but pay attention to felting as it is such a variable process.
