This is a knitted, then felted pattern. When wool fibers are combined with hot water, soap and moving pressure, a chemical and structural change takes place which bonds the fibers creating a firm felt fabric that is warm even when wet, durable and permanently shaped. The booties pictured were made with 55% mohair/45% wool blend Any animal fiber such as wool, alpaca, mohair, etc. which has not been treated or superwashed will work. DK and Sport will make smaller booties, different fibers and yarn weights yield surprising results.

Finished Size: Size #1 - 4.5 inches by 3 inches. They fit
babies ranging from 3 months to 9 months. Give
them early!
Size #2 - 5 inches by 3.5 inches, 9 to 18 months.

Needles: size 10.5 circular, 16”
Gauge: 3 – 3.5 stitches per inch
Ridge: two knitted rows in straight knitting or a knitted row then a purled row in the round.
