Feathers Socks
The Feathers socks are my nod to Emily Dickinson’s poem ‘Hope is the thing with feathers.’ They feature a larger lace panel down the middle with a smaller lace panel on either side, meant to look like two different types of feathers, which start after the ribbing and continue all the way down the front of the leg and foot.
These socks are worked from the cuff down. They are written for magic-loop knitting and include a heel flap and gusset, but feel free to substitute your own style of knitting and preferred heel/toe method. The ribbing blends as seamlessly as possible into the lace/mock cable pattern for a nice effect. The lace pattern is included only on the top of the sock - the back of the leg and bottom of the foot are in plain stockinette.
You can also work these socks from the toe up, although the pattern will be flipped around!
There are currently two sizes for the pattern: Medium (64 sts) and Large (72 sts). They are charted in separate PDFs, and you can choose which one (or both) to download, so make sure you check before you begin knitting. If you require written instructions for the lace, they are included separately in a PDF, also available for download with the pattern. I hope you find the pattern accessible! Samples of this sock were knitted in a variety of yarns. The white with green speckles was knitted in a 2-ply 75/25 yarn from Wool2Dye4 that I dyed myself. The blue sample was knitted in a sock yarn from Peak District Yarns in the colorway Mouthwash. The burgundy was done in Lang Jawoll Superwash in the colorway Aubergine.
