Favn Shawl
The Favn Shawl is the first design I’ve made with a feeling as the starting point rather than a look. I wanted to create the ultimate hug, a woolly embrace to wrap around oneself when most needed.
favn ~ an old Nordic measuring unit describing the distance from the tip of your middle finger on one hand to the tip of the middle finger of the other. Its origin can be traced back to the Old Norse word faðmr. It was used to measure the length of an anchor chain or a fishing net when describing how deep the sea is, and also when measuring volume as in how much one could carry in one armful. As a verb, favn also means to embrace, to fathom and/or to comprehend.
The Favn Shawl is a symmetrical triangular shawl featuring woven stitch textures and slip stitch colourwork, creating all the squish you could possibly want. It is an exciting and addictive knit for beginners and intermediates alike. Perfect as a first colourwork project as you will only be working with one colour at the time.
