I was watching the TV show Fargo (season 2) and ok, it’s seriously so weird, but this girl in the show was wearing this amazing sweater! At least her sweater made the show worthwhile for me. So here is my take on Noreen Vanderslice’s glorious sweater (I honestly did not make that up, that is the actual character’s name).

I worked this sweater from the bottom up using at least 4 colors of yarn. I used scraps from my stash instead of purchasing yarn! If you have a good amount of worsted weight scraps, you can probably get away with it too. The great thing is that you only need a small amount of each color, with one main color. I would recommend choosing your main and primary contrast color first, then laying out all the contrast yarns. Line the contrast colors up and plan what order you want them in before you get started. I’d recommend placing yarns from different color families next to each other. For example, don’t put 3 rows of blues right next to each other. Break them up a little! Otherwise, things start to get weird… (don’t worry too much; no matter how weird things get, it’ll never be as weird as Fargo was.)

This sweater is designed to have about 1” - 2”/2.5 - 5 cm of positive ease. Due to the color stranding, positive ease is really a must for this one!

Yarn: 575 (600, 650, 700) (750, 800, 850) yards/525 (550, 600, 650) (685, 730, 775) meters of worsted or light Aran weight yarn (more if you want long sleeves):
150 (150, 175, 175) (200, 225, 225) yards/140 (150, 160, 170) (185, 205, 215) meters of Main Color (white)
75 (85, 95, 105) (115, 125, 135) yards/70 (75, 85, 95) (105,115, 125) meters of Primary Contrast Color (dark purple)
100 - 150 yards/90 - 140 yards of any color for the ribbing (you don’t have to make them all the same, if your short on yardage!)
The remaining yardage in various colors (about 20 - 40 yards/meters for each striped row)

(The reddish beige and light beige were actually different manufacturers, Blue Savannah and Madelinetosh, but you could substitute Applewood and Simply Taupe by Malabrigo if desired. I also think Water Green would go excellently w/ this color combo!)

Notions: 3 spare circular needles smaller than gauge (larger) needles or scrap yarn, 4 small st holders, blocking mat, wires (optional), T-pins, and a tapestry needle.

Techniques: Knitting in the round, basic chart reading, basic color stranding, picking up stitches.
