Looking for the knit version of this pattern? It’s here.
Assigned pooling, sometimes called stitch by color, is a beginner-friendly technique in which each stitch is determined by the color of the yarn in a variegated skein. Typically, if untwisted and laid out flat, the hank will be mostly one color (or subtle shades) with streaks of an accent color about 8-12 in / 20-30 cm long. The main color in the yarn will be assigned a basic stitch pattern (e.g. half double crochet), while the accent color will be assigned a fancier stitch (e.g. petal stitch). While this concept is certainly not new, it has gained popularity in recent years through the in-depth explorations of Dawn Barker and her many stunning knitting patterns that employ this method.
CONSTRUCTION
This cowl begins as a top-down triangle with increases at each end and down the center. When the desired neck circumference is achieved, the work is joined in the round and continued downward, maintaining the increases at the center front.
