Exchange bag
This “yarn” is fingering weight nylon cord. If you have trouble finding it, Hobby Lobby is your best bet.
From Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker:
Every February, a dozen or so of my far-flung college friends and I send each other gifts in mystery exchanges--no one knows who’s sending what to whom until the package arrives. There is only one rule: you have to make it yourself. The first year I’d just found nylon cord at the craft store and knew it would make a perfect little handbag. I was so happy with the result that it was hard to send the original version off. It was definitely worth it though, when my own gift arrived -- a personalized miniature of a favorite sculpture that spelled out my name in wire frame letters.
Of course, I immediately made myself an Exchange Bag. The nylon cord may take some getting used to as it’s stiffer than your average yarn. But it’s worth the extra effort--the finished bag is so sturdy that it’s nearly indestructible. I’ve also discovered that it’s unharmed y a trip through the washing machine, making this truly a handbag that can go with you anywhere--to work, to the beach or out all night.
