Evergreen Lace Scarf
Jane Austen mentions Fanny Price’s “work” often through the pages of Mansfield Park. As a knitter reading about the Bertram household, one can only imagine Fanny’s projects as knitting! This lace scarf reflects her love of the outdoors both in color and design. The rich, heather green is reminiscent of Fanny’s rhapsody “The evergreen! How beautiful, how welcome, how wonderful the evergreen! When one thinks of it, how astonishing a variety of nature!” The lace motifs include both the blossoms and boughs she might have enjoyed seeing on her afternoon in the woods at Sotherton or on a walk to the Parsonage. The scarf is knitted as a trapezoid, the edging is picked up along the sides and bottom and then the piece is blocked to crescent shape- the magic of lace knitting!
100% merino wool; 440 yds. 402 m/ 50 g): forest heather, 1 hank.
