This jumper looks complicated but is in fact super easy to knit….and also very, very addictive. I am so addicted to this pattern that I have used it in other designs. One of the reasons is that I love helping knitters pick out shades for this pattern. It is great to see how different shades work together.

The Emmen Jumper uses the slip stitch technique (this is also called mosaic). What does this mean? It means you only use one shade in a row yet it looks like you are using two. It is the simplest of colour work and my favourite way to do colourwork.

The shape of this jumper makes it perfect for male and females. I have loved seeing the various colour ways knitters have chosen as well as using the original colour way. What I love the most about this pattern is it’s simplicity and how many knitters don’t believe me when I say it is just knitting, just garter stitch 2 row striping and only using one colour in the row.  I love simple, simple, simple knitting. Sometimes things can seem really complicated or overwhelming and what I want my designs and patterns to do is bring simple soothing stitches into a knitter’s life. So they can pick up the needles and have a few rows of calm in the middle of the hectic.

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat in seperate pieces and joined together. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing at the armhole and neck shaping, increasing on the sleeves, slip stitch sometimes called mosaic colour work , cast off.
