Sometimes inspiration comes out of a moment of serendipity.
I was taking a walk along some trails that run along the coastal mountain range near my house, listening to the radio on my MP3 player and, at the same time, wondering what to do with a solitary ball of yarn that had been dozing in my stash for too long. In front of me, on top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, I come across an ancient Iberian site. Ancient stones sprouting among a small, fragrant meadow of magenta and purple flowers, in shades almost identical to that of the ball, called Edelwicke, Sweet pea, Guisante dulce, Pois de senteur… And, believe me, just at that very moment a catchy and cheerful pop song with the “same” name of the flower () is playing on the radio. And here it is, the result of a moment in which millenary stones, a catchy song, some aromatic little flowers and a solitary ball of yarn were intertwined.

Circular needle 4 mm / US 6 with cable 100 cm

Notions
Crochet hook or tapestry needle to weave in the ends. Blocking aids and row counter (optional, but highly recommended)

Gauge
21 sts and 23 rows - 10x10 cm / 4x4’’ in stockinette stitch with 4 mm / US 6 needles, washed and blocked. Even if I personally think the gauge for shawls is not so important.

Notes
The Edelwicke shawl is made out of one skein of fingering weight yarn on larger size needles.
The construction of the shawlette is very simple. It is knitted mostly in stockinette with some eyelet rows to increase the stitches and features a very elegant and easy to knit lace edge.
The crescent shawl is worked top-down beginning with a garter tab cast-on, back and forth on a circular needle to make room for all the stitches, mostly in stockinette stitch and features a very elegant and easy to knit lace edge and picot bind-off. You start knitting a garter tab cast-on then shaìng the shawl by doing regular increases along both wings. Also, there are some eyelet rows to increase the stitches in the main body.
Designed as one skein project it can be easily adapted to a larger shawl.
