Original directions call for sewing silk and fine knitting needles.

Cast on 8 stitches, knit 1 round, then follow chart VIa (Typensatz VIa) for the center star, rounds 1-42.

For the border, follow chart (Typensatz) VIb rounds 42-75.

In round 43, count 175 stitches in the round (decrease 1 stitch).

In round 61, work the triple yarnover (111) as purl-knit-purl.

In round 62, count 280 stitches total.

Round 75 is a crochet cast-off:

Take off groups of 2 or 3 knitted stitches as shown in chart VIb. and crochet chains of 3, 5, or 6 stitches between each group of knitted stitches.

The finished work is pinned out and blocked.
