Dragon Tears
Dragon Tears is a uniquely constructed shawl with an eye-catching design.
Due to it’s unique construction you are casting on for the whole border (apart from the very top) - it might be daunting to cast on 950 sts but please don’t be scared!
You will only work all of the sts for the first 10 rows (the border), after that you’re working the scalloped bottom of each teardrop individually (short rows) and when this section of the pattern has been completed you have already have decreased over 200 sts!
It is also worth noting that due to the construction of the shawl, for the most part you will be working over 70-75% of the total number of sts. As you get further along the percentage will increase but at the same time you will have regularly been decreasing so it’s not as bad as it first seems…
There are a lot of short rows but they are the easy kind; no wraps to pick up and hide.
The pattern is written but is very easy to follow, I believe once you get the hang of things you will only have to glance at the instructions.
Finished measurements (approx.)
Washed and laid flat to dry it measures approx. 160 cm long and 72 cm deep.
Yes, the shawl is HUGE, so if you wish to make it smaller you can go down in ndl size as it is quite loosely knit. Another option if you like an airly but smaller shawl, use a heavy lace with a smaller ndl than suggested.
Suggested yarn
Four skeins of The Knitting Swede’s CHARISMA (55% Superwashed BFL / 45% Silk; 400m per 100gr skein). However, I do not dye yarn anymore, but any 4ply/fingering weight yarn will work beautifully.
