I love knitting lace. But I don’t like the old-fashioned appearance of most lace patterns.
The flame chevron lace pattern (from Barbara Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns) used for these socks has a more modern look. It also reminds me both of fire and the overlapping scales of, say, a dragon.
Converting this pattern from flat knitting to knitting in the round was a little tricky because the pattern repeats don’t match up vertically. Instead, there is a two-stitch jog every twelve rows. Consequently, the “beginning” of the round shifts throughout the pattern. Even if you don’t usually use stitch markers while knitting, I recommend it for this pattern.
