Originally designed for Knotions, June 2019 Issue
It’s warm, and sunny out, and sunglasses seem to be a permanent fixture on many of our faces, especially at the beach! But when you aren’t wearing them, don’t just throw them in your bag, slide them into a handmade sunglass pouch!
I have really fallen back in love with working into the back loop lately, and so I decided that I wanted the whole case to feature this ribbed technique. This technique is achieved by using a basic single crochet, but working into the back loop only. Single crochets require a little more time and patience, but the finished fabric is just gorgeous!
To give it a little more, I decided to combine one of my favorite colors - the creamy Ecru, with a fun, bright, Summer-y color to give a dip dyed effect. This is right on trend, and would be awesome in any fun bright color, or even an ombre effect!
The pouch is finished with a snap button, but an alternative to this would be to leave off the flap, crochet a chain loop instead, and sewing on a respective sized button.
Materials:
- 50 Yards of Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn - I used Lily Sugar n Cream in the Ecru and Sunshine colorways
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
- Optional, Jewelry Pliers
- Sewing Needle and Thread - Recommend Silamide Thread
- Size 2 0.5” (1.27 cm) Snap Button
Materials Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Bernat Handicrafter, Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Rico Creative Cotton Aran.
Jewelry pliers are an excellent tool to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and needle.
Gauge:
In BLO Pattern worked in the round: 17 SC by 15 Rows = 3.88”
Abbreviations:
- BLO - Back Loop Only
- SC - Single Crochet
- HDC - Half Double Crochet
