Diamond-Framed Daisy Scarf
As a charitable contribution, a light sport-weight version of this scarf pattern is being designed for SHOKAY Orient. The pattern will be available for free through their website soon. Therefore, I am now also offering this DK-weight version of the pattern for free here. Enjoy!
The Diamond-Framed Daisy Scarf combines a variety of stitch patterns and textures, making it interesting to both knit and wear. An edging is mirrored at the beginning and end of the scarf, allowing the scarf to be worked continuously in one piece without grafting. A central pattern of twist stitches (1x1 cables) is worked without using a cable needle, and encloses eyelet daisies worked on a background of stockinette stitch. Despite the long repeat length, the pattern is easy to memorize, and just a few repeats will make a full-length scarf.
Scarf is worked flat, and both written and charted directions are provided.
Materials:
Yarn:
DK weight yarn, approximately 220 yards/ 200 m. High wool content is recommended for successful blocking.
Scarf is shown in Drops Karisma Superwash. Scarf has been tested successfully in Madeline Tosh DK and Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Heavyweight.
Needles:
US #7/ 4.5mm, or 1-2 sizes larger than needed to achieve gauge recommended by manufacturer.
Needles may be any style suitable for working flat.
Gauge:
18 sts. x 24 rows = 4 x 4”/ 10.2 x 10.2 cm. in stockinette stitch.
One Diamond-Framed Daisy pattern repeat measures approximately 2.5 x 3.75”/ 6.35 x 9.5 cm.
While gauge is not critical for this project, it will affect final width of scarf. Scarf width approximately equals two Diamond-Framed Daisy patterns. Note that stitch counts cannot be easily modified.
Techniques:
The abbreviations page, which is shown in the pattern pictures, lists all stitches and techniques used.
Pattern:
Pattern is a 7-page PDF including a cover page, abbreviations page, 3 pages of written directions, and 2 pages of charted directions. All charts are on a single page.
An excerpt of the chart is shown (in the pattern pictures) as representative of the symbol styles and gridlines used. There are no colors used in the charts.
Thank you to KnitterScarlet, goodnurse, and marthajane for testing!
