Davenport Kaftan (Swimsuit Cover Up)
Summer is so perfect for drop stitches! If you have been intimidated by them, don’t be! They are way easier than you think, and they look so lacy and gorgeous with such a minimal amount of work. This pattern is written in such a way that it is the perfect intro to drop stitches. The drop stitches will be explicitly explained in the pattern, making it great for beginners to this technique. Using a cotton or other plant fiber makes this garment the perfect swimsuit cover-up for summer! Worked in an animal fiber, it’s the perfect for brisk spring or fall days with leggings. The stitch pattern works just perfect in either type of yarn. The yarn used in the sample is a thick n thin style, so it does take a little longer to work up than regular yarn because of all the little nubs. Be aware if you use this type of yarn that it will go a little slower than typical. Even still, it works up quickly because your work will grow tremendously by dropping stitches! Happy knitting!
Techniques: Basic increases and decreases, garter stitch (knit every row), dropping stitches (explained in the pattern), picking up stitches, and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off.
