Dancing with Galaxies shawl has a half-Pi construction worked center out, meaning that every time the number of rows doubles, the pattern doubles the number of stitches, by working (yo, k1) across the row. It’s a really easy and fun construction to knit and design.
When you reach the right length, the shawl is finished with a gorgeous mosaic border in a pattern that reminds of spiraling Galaxies, attached to the shawl body while you knit.
Size: 160 cm (63”) diam.
Yarn
Malabrigo Susurro (25% Linen, 25% Merino Wool, 50% Silk; 325 yards 297 meters/100 g).
MC: Polar Morn, approx 600 yds 548 m.
CC: Whales Road, approx 230 yds 190 m;
Note: For yarn substitutions, you can consider any sportweight yarn with a good drape. Be careful in choosing 2 colors with good contrast, and I’d not recommend using a wildly variegated yarn for MC, as it can make the border design less visible.
Needles
One 80 cm / 32” (or longer) circular needle for the shawl body and one 60 cm/24” for the border in size needed to obtain gauge.
Suggested needle size: 3.5-4 mm / 4-6 US.
Notions
2 markers.
Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Gauge
24 stitches and 40 rows = 10x10 cm (4”) in mosaic st after blocking.
Note: Gauge is not critical for this project.
