As you knit these mitts, imagine each one embodying the essence of the tarot cards, The Sun and The Star. The Sun, radiating warmth and positivity, will encourage you to shine brightly and fearlessly while The Star, a beacon of hope and inspiration, will remind you that even in the darkness your dreams are within reach. Let the energy you knit into your mitts illuminate your path and warm your soul, a reminder to embrace your journey and limitless potential.
The Daily Tarot Mitts are worked in the round with stranded knitting from the cuff to the fingers. The thumb stitches are placed on waste yarn to be picked up and knit later. This pattern is recommended for knitters who have experience with stranded colorwork, knitting in the round, and reading charts.
Yarn
Two skeins of Lattes & Llamas Vacation Yarn (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon; 100 g – 463 yds / 423 m) or a comparable fingering weight yarn in contrasting colorways.
Sample is shown in ‘Palpatine’ as Color A and ‘Blonde Ambition’ as Color C.
Color A: 185 yds / 169 m – 40 g
Color B: 134 yds / 123 m – 29 g
When choosing your yarn, make sure that Colors A and B contrast strongly. I recommend taking a photograph of the yarns together, and then changing it into black and white to see if the colors contrast strongly enough.
Needles
US 1 / 2.25 mm 40” circular needles to work in Magic Loop for the cuff or size needed to obtain gauge.
US 2 / 2.75 mm 40” circular needles to work in Magic Loop for the colorwork or size needed to obtain gauge.
I prefer the Magic Loop method when knitting mitts. If you are more comfortable using DPNs or two circulars, this pattern is easily converted.
Gauge
32 sts and 38 rnds = 4” / 10 cm in stranded colorwork with US 2 / 2.75 mm needles, knit in the round and blocked.
Adjusting the gauge listed above or the pattern will alter the size of your mitts and change the yardage requirements.
Finished Size
One Size: 10” / 25.5 cm long and 8” / 20 cm in circumference after blocking.
Instructions are included to modify the size of your mitts by going up or down a needle size.
