I love this little sock. They are knitted in dk yarn so perfect for keeping tiny toes warm under wellies – whether they’re jumping in puddles or playing in the snow. There’s something magical about this design: the cast-on amount will fit most children up to around 5 years old.

To adjust for your child’s foot length, simply follow the instructions in the Shape Instep section, where it says: “until foot measures 6cm/21⁄4ins (or your desired length)”. Here, just knit until the sock measures the length of your child’s foot – from the ankle to about 2.5cm/1in from the tip of their toes.

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff down.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, decreasing, picking up stitches, grafting stitches together. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off.

YARN
2(2:2:3:3) 100g hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK.
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 225m/246yds per 100g
It takes 40g/90m to knit the sock as written in the pattern.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
Four double pointed 3.25mm knitting needles.

GAUGE (tension)
24 stitches and 32 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 3.25mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit 12-24 months (with foot length of 12cm)
This a magical size and the cast on amount will fit a child up to 5 years old by adjusting the foot length. I’ve highlighted where to do this in the pattern.
