You will need to know how to knit and purl to make this hat. You will also need to know how to do a K2TOG decrease. You do not need to know how to knit in the round, as this is knit on straight needles and seamed.

Note that that acrylic yarn I originally used for this comes and goes seasonally at Michaels stores. However, you can substitute another jumbo (size 7) yarn and adjust the gauge. There are instructions in the pattern for a slightly thinner yarn. Or I’ve also used wool roving and it works great. I like to split it in half - it’s still giant but a little less bulky.

You can also use the bulky yarn to make a pom pom!
