Sunday is all about cosy - alarm turned off, tucked under the duvet with a cup of tea and a good book. When you have to drag yourself out into the chilly weather, this hat will help you carry the cosy feeling with you. Knit in an aran yarn for a squishy, warm fabric, with cables to keep things interesting. The hat has a relaxed fit and an optional pompom on top.
Needles: 5.0 mm / US size 8 needles for working in the round on a small circumference.
Yarn: 100 g aran weight yarn, 166 m per 100 g.
Sample shown in A little bit Sheepish British Bluefaced Leicester Aran; 100% wool; 166 m / 181 yd per 100 g, in “Juno”.
Notions: Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
Skills: Cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, increases, cabling, decreases, weaving in ends.
Gauge: 19 stitches and 25 rows over 10 cm / 4” in k2, p1 rib, blocked but un-stretched. Adjust your needle size if needed to achieve the correct gauge.
Sizing: Pattern gives stitch counts for small (medium, large) adult size; approximately equivalent to 38 (44, 50) cm / 15 (17¼, 19¾)” knitted circumference around the brim. Choose a size approximately 5 cm / 2” smaller than your head measurement. This hat is designed to have a fairly relaxed fit; if you prefer a snug hat you may wish to knit a smaller size or drop down a needle size for a tighter gauge.
