Columbia Suit
by Anne Berk
The Columbia River borders the state of Oregon and has served as a source of food, transportation, energy, and inspiration for generations.
Inspired by Sally Melville’s “Not Mrs. Doubtfire’s suit” from The Knitting Experience: Color, this suit is a good first intarsia garment, as the intarsia involved is easily worked. For the skirt, the “in the round” (ITR) method is only needed for the rows that contain diamond motifs; where there are only two colors, the yarns are stranded. The top features intarsia bands on just the sleeves that are positioned where they don’t interfere with the sleeve shaping.
Both fast and easy to knit, this versatile project is a good mix of creativity and rhythmic knitting.
