Cobbled
I love the perfect imperfection of a cobbled street. The stones are lined up to form rows or geometric shapes that charm me and invoke a sense of a simpler past. When walking a cobbled street I can imagine I live in a time so much more grounded than the helter-skelter days that seem to fly by more and more quickly each year. There is something bewitching about the past, and about the idea of slowing down to appreciate it.
I invite you to join me in my philosophical journey through time. By choosing to make our own clothes we honour the work our ancestors did out of necessity, and imbue it with new life, new ideas, new patterns. The Cobbled hat is worked using a pleasantly simple stitch pattern. As you form each stitch, pause to appreciate who you are and where you came from. There is only one of you, and your story is unique.
This pattern is for a slouchy hat in 2 sizes (adult and child). The hat can be more or less slouchy to fit your taste or the amount of yarn you have. The stitch pattern is simple and easy to memorize. The decreases are textural like cables, but there is no cabling in this pattern. This is a perfect pattern for a last minute gift, as the hat can be worked up in just a few evenings.
