Cloisonne Moebius
Pattern is part of the Transitions E-book.
The moebius is one of the more intriguing shapes in modern knitting. Cat Bordi invented the cast-on a few years ago and it is still a wonder of knitting today.
The cast-on is a modified provisional cast-on that once complete allows the knitter to work in two directions at once. The cast-on is the middle line of the scarf or wrap. As you knit the cords of the circular needle move away from each other and you are knitting the piece out from that middle line – you are literally knitting in two directions at once.
Cloisonné takes the patterns we have been working with and turns them into a marvellously versatile and graceful addition to your wardrobe. Techniques include – moebius cast-on; knitted on edging; and if desired a little crochet frou-frou detail to add to your edging.
Small – 24 inches around
Medium – 48 inches around
Large – 72 inches around
Sample shown is the longest version with the 300 st cast-on. It is 72 inches around and 16 inches deep.
These patterns have been designed to take an advanced beginner/intermediate knitter from a fairly simple straight lace scarf to a circular collar to a larger moebius cowl. Many of the steps are illustrated with photographs and all the techniques are good basics to learn for any future lace knitting.
