Church of Clouds
Work the sweater top down.
First, work the neckband in double ribbing, then work the yoke in stockinette and with raglan increases.
The body is finished first, with a pattern shaped by the German short rows, and with a double rib edging.
Finally work the sleeves in a pattern of stockinette and garter stitches.
Colours change throughout work, presenting an interchanging
colour flow.
When changing colours, let the old and the new colourway overlap for approx. 15 cm and knit both colourways. This way you weave in the ends as you knit.
There is a building in Bagsværd that at first glance looks like a warehouse, but as you move closer, you realise it’s a church. If you venture inside, the anonymous and angular building opens to a white, vaulted, organically shaped ceiling that immediately catches your eye and breaks the angularity of the building. Light floods in through the windows and onto the undulating ceiling, creating nuances between shadow and light, softening the architecture, and making you feel like you’re standing in a summer meadow and looking at drifting clouds. The church in Bagsværd was designed in 1968 by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and is known as one of his masterpieces. This sweater is inspired by the ceiling of Bagsværd Church, with volume, softness, and
gradation between light and dark.
