Directions are given for two lengths of a fun, cozy, chill-cheating cowl – one that rests right up near the neck (18 inches) and one that is long enough to wear as a hood (48 inches).

The samples are worked in a wonderful cotton/acrylic blend (perfect for those with wool allergies) but would work equally well in a worsted-weight wool. Four colors are needed for this design which is knit in the round.

The longer cowl has directions for knitting a contrast lining to cover the stranded-colorwork and add another layer for greater warmth.

• worsted weight cotton/acrylic or wool yarn in four colors (sample used Kraemer’s Tatamy Tweed worsted):
18” cowl 48” cowl
MC 90 yds 180 yds
CC1 25 yds 50 yds
CC2 10 yds 20 yds
CC3 20 yds 40 yds
liner in CC3 n/a 140 yds

US #8 circs needed (16-in for smaller, 40-in for larger)
