Cherry Socks
Such joyous socks, full of spring and meaning. Interestingly enough, there is absolutely no sewing at all-- the leafy band that encircles the ankle (and which you do first) has the cast-on and end rows cast off together; then you pick up stitches around its edge and work down from there in traditional sock fashion. Except that you untraditionally launch into the pretty ‘cherry’ pattern right away, and then the instep has the blithe long checkerboard motif. This is the kind of sock that Gabriel Garcia Marquez would have designed, had he not been compelled to write books instead of knitting.
