Centrifugue
Stripes ahoy! If you’re in the mood for some more stripes this summer Centrifugue may be just the thing. Celebrating the fun of stripes with a whimsical, asymmetric design of stripes that widen toward the shawl’s edges, Centrifugue reminds me both of the effect of a centrifuge, which pushes things from a center towards the edge, and the musical composition technique of the fugue, in which two or more voices built on a theme. The latter description fits particularly well if you substitute the word “colorways” for “voices”! Centrifugue is worked entirely in garter stitch, with the first approximately three-quarters of the shawl done in all knit rows and just as you’re about ready for a change of pace, the last one-quarter done in all purl rows.
