♫ The Music ♫
Tim Janis’ composition Celtic Heart soothes the soul and lifts the spirit as only music can.

Whether knit for a treasured newborn, as a lap blanket to keep away the chill or a throw just for the love of it, the Celtic cables in this blanket are sure to bring joy in so many ways.

The design begins with the central Celtic heart motif which starts with a provisional cast on and is worked flat. Stitches are then picked up around the central block and borders are worked in the round. Only a couple of sewing stitches are required to join the ends of the I-cord edging.

Stitch patterns are charted with written directions for each chart provided. Row-by-row stitch counts are included in the Written Directions for Charts section (pages 14 - 18).

Size
The Celtic Heart blanket is a slightly rounded square: 40” / 102 cm high and wide at corners, 50” / 127cm high and wide at centre points.

Yarn
2276 yds / 2082m DK weight yarn.

Sample shown in Berroco Vintage DK (52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon; 290yds / 260m per 100g): Colour 2102.

The pattern also lists yarn requirements for each of the sections of the blanket.

Needles
3.75mm / US5 circular needle 32” / 80cm and 48” / 120cm and 60” / 152cm or size required to obtain gauge.

4mm / US6 circular needle 32” / 80cm and 48” / 120cm and 60” / 152cm or one size larger than gauge needle.

3.75mm / US5 or smaller circular needle 32” / 80cm or longer, for transferring provisionally cast on sts.

Notions
Stitch markers; cable needle; provisional cast on notions (dependent on method chosen e.g., waste yarn, crochet hook, extra circular needle or cable, etc.); large-eyed needle for weaving in ends.

Techniques
The base of the heart motif uses a set of twisted increase. There is a YouTube video of these special increases here: Twisted Left Leaning Increase (TLLI) and Twisted Right Leaning Increase (TRLI) video
