MATERIALS: Crochet cotton no. 10, ecru, about 450 yds (75 g). Steel crochet hook US size 7 (1.50 mm) or SIZE FOR GAUGE. To obtain mat about 14 1/4” in diameter, we recommend using crochet cotton no. 40 and steel hook US size 11 (1.00 mm)

Editor’s note: while gauges and threads vary, the first completed project used about 400 yds (1 skein) using a US size 7 steel hook to obtain the 20” diameter doily. It did not require the 450 yds, or more than 1 skein, as noted in the pattern.
