I initially came up with the idea for rows of champagne glasses in 2023 for issue 100 of Crochet Now magazine.
That design used inset mosaic crochet (and may be purchased here), but I know many people prefer overlay mosaic crochet, so I couldn’t resist creating an overlay version too!

The pattern includes a clear marked chart, alongside full written instructions and lots of helpful photos.

The design repeat is 24 + 5 stitches x 28 rows, meaning it can be easily combined with most of my other mosaic crochet designs, including Lakenham Mosaic Sampler, which is what I did to add the personalisation on the final photo.

The pattern includes details of the yarn I used, but you can use any yarn you wish, just make sure that you have a good contrast between the main colour and the contrasts, and use a hook size appropriate to your yarn.

I have included various suggestions for fringes, and also instructions for an optional simple envelope border to finish your project, although please note that the yarn requirements listed do not include yarn required to make the border.
For example, you will need around 35m additional yarn for each round of the border, if you are making the suggested size in the stated yarn.

To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in my ’Universal’ terms (I developed these terms for the Jacquard Temperature Blanket and have also used them in Flora’s Fauna and all my subsequent overlay mosaic crochet patterns).

If you want to find out more about my Universal terms, please see this short video https://youtu.be/IsubXOfEuVw

In addition to the standard overlay mosaic crochet stitches (US sc in back loop, and dc in front loop 2 rows down), the design also uses the third loop to help the horizontal lines pop out.

Don’t worry though, this is also pretty easy to do, and I have added a short video to my YouTube channel explaining it further:
