On my daily walks, I often feel a chill around my neck and head—especially at dusk. I sometimes wear a cotton tube to cover my ears and keep my hair in place. While cotton is practical, it’s not exactly luxurious. The Cashmere Crown was born from a desire for something more elegant: a versatile accessory that keeps my neck warm when needed and makes me feel like a queen when worn around my head. Try wearing this crown around your head or neck during springtime coffee breaks outdoors, summer walks along the beach, or autumn strolls through the park.

Construction:
The Cashmere Crown is worked seamlessly in the round, from the bottom up. Thoughtful details and intermediate techniques elevate this simple accessory. Four embedded video tutorials are included to guide you every step of the way:

• German Twisted Cast On – A stretchy, rib-friendly cast on perfect for headwear.
• Faux Cable Rib Stitch – Create a cable-like effect without using a cable needle.
• Lori’s Twisty Bind Off – A neat, elastic finish that avoids edge flare.
• Catching Dropped Stitches – Bonus tutorial to help you troubleshoot with confidence.

Sizes:
Small (Standard, Large) to fit a head circumference of 19 (21, 23)“ / 48 (53, 58) cm. My sample is the Standard size.
For a snug fit around the head, select a size that provides 1–2” (2.5–5 cm) of negative ease.

Needles:
US 3 / 3.25 mm 16” / 40 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Some pattern testers used US 2 / 2.75mm needles to obtain gauge. Check your personal tension by creating a swatch in 2x2 rib.

You may prefer to use DPNs (double-pointed needles), two circulars, Flexi Flips, etc. for working a small number of stitches in the round. Choose your favorite method. Just have fun!

Yarn:
Now discontinued, I used Grace by Espace Tricot, Light Fingering: 75% Merino, 15% Cashmere goat, 10% Silk. 490 yards (448 meters) per 115 g. Any fingering weight yarn will do.

I’ve intentionally used scrap yarn (a luxurious one!) for this pattern as a sustainable choice. The yarn was left over from making my Grounded pattern. I encourage you to find a luxurious yarn in your stash for this half-skein project—and maybe make one for a friend too!

Alternatively, I recommend Julie Asselin Fino, which features the same fiber blend as the original yarn: cashmere, silk, and merino wool. Of course, I’ve also recommended some less expensive, non-cashmere options to make this design accessible to all.

All sizes require approximately half of a standard 100 g skein of fingering weight yarn. If you’re working from your stash, you’ll need approximately:

Small: 180 yds / 165 m / 42 grams
Standard: 192 yds / 175 m / 45 grams
Large: 205 yds / 188 m / 48 grams

Yardage is based on fingering weight yarn and may vary slightly depending on gauge and modifications.

Gauge:
44 sts x 36 rows = 4” / 10 cm in 2 X 2 ribbing after blocking.

Notions:
1 stitch marker, yarn snips, tapestry needle, tape measure, highlighter, and pen.
