Cahill Point

Wearing my heart on my sleeves, I face life with the love of strength and the strength of love.

Cahill Point is worked top down as follows:

• The sleeve stranded colorwork bands are worked first, either in‐the‐round with steeks or flat without steeks (both options are in the pattern).
• The Back of the collar is provisionally CO and once half of the Back neck width is achieved, short rows are worked for collar shaping, then the collar is continued while attaching to the neck edge of the Sleeve Stranded Band. This is repeated for the right side of the collar and Sleeve Stranded Band.
• The Upper Back is worked next across the wingspan down from the shoulders to the underarms. Short rows are worked to shape 3 different things: the back neck along the collar, then the sleeves, then the shoulders.
• The Upper Left Front is worked next with short rows to shape 2 different things: the sleeves, then the shoulders.
• The underarm of the Left sleeve is completed and the Front and Back sleeve sts are joined with a 3‐needle BO.
• The Upper Right front and sleeve is worked in the same manner as the Upper Left Front and sleeve.
• The Lower Body is continued flat from underarm to hem.
• Finally, stitches for the cuffs are picked up and worked in the round.

The lace panels are both charted and written. The stranded colorwork is charted only.

Intended to be worn with 10 to 30cm / 4 to 12” positive ease at bust and hem. Sample shown is the size 2 on 87cm / 34.25” bust, corresponding to 36cm / 14.25” of ease at bust. A list of measurements is provided on page 3.

Yarn

The Woolly Thistle Rambler (80% Dorset, 10% Corriedale, 10% Gray Romney Wool; 384 metres / 420 yards in 100 grams) in 1 main colour (MC: Lake) and 1 contrast colour CC (Winter Sky). If using the sample yarn, the number of skeins of Rambler is given in brackets.

Gauges

The Stranded Colourwork and plain Stockinette gauges are intentionally different. To find your needle sizes, you need to
swatch both in single‐colour stockinette and the stranded colourwork in order to find your needle sizes that will achieve
the required gauges.

Stranded Colourwork: 30 sts / 36 rows/rnds to 10cm / 4” using size A needles.
Stockinette: 26 sts / 36 rows to 10cm / 4” using size B needles.

Note that the Stranded Colourwork gauge is worked with the smaller needles and has an intentionally smaller gauge than the Stockinette gauge. This way the shoulders are firm and stable and the body of the cardigan is light and drapey.

Needles and Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needles. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 2.75mm (US 2) needles 60cm (24”) or 80cm (32”) in length
Size B: 3mm (US 2.5) needles of varying lengths

You will also need: cable needle; spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts; stitch markers; removable markers; if steeking the stranded colourwork bands then a crochet hook, tapestry/darning needle with sturdy sock yarn, sewing machine, or felting tools for reinforcing steeks.

Techniques

• Stranded colorwork either worked in-the-round with steeks or worked flat with no steeks
• short rows (for collar shaping, back neck shaping, sleeve shaping and shoulder shaping)
• provisional cast on (for the back neck collar)
• lace and cables worked flat, either charted or written
• 3-needle bind off (to close the sleeves)
• Applied I-cord BO (along the cuffs and hem)
