This pattern is from 1892 Butterick’s The Art of Knitting, p.19. There are always 26 stitches in a row and there are 12 rows in one repeat of the pattern. All the wrong-side rows are purl across. I love the undulating side edges but if you need straight edges, cast on at least 12 extra edge stitches (6 each side) to straighten the sides.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, SSK and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

44 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 yarn will make 10 inches of a 26-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
