Overview of the sweater:
The Brooke Logan Sweater is an elegant cable knit design with a twist—there are no regular knit stitches at all; every knit stitch in this sweater is worked through the back loop. Don’t let that intimidate you! Despite its striking appearance, the cables are easy to knit, and the finished piece is truly rewarding. Broad twisted rib cables create a rhythmic structure throughout the sweater. The fit is close to the body, with just a slight amount of ease.

The sweater is worked from the top down: you start by knitting the back piece flat down to the underarms. Then, stitches are picked up for each front piece in turn before joining them. Once the front has reached the desired length, the body is joined onto the same needles and worked in the round down to the hem. The hem features a twisted ribbing. Sleeve stitches are picked up at the armhole and the sleeves are worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline for a twisted rib collar, which is folded double to the inside of the garment.

And the name Brooke Logan? As a child, my favorite character from the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful was Brooke. Coincidentally, in winter 2025 I designed a sweater for Laine’s Finnish Knits publication using yarn from Säie Wool, a design which I named after Ridge Forrester (pattern here). Since Brooke Logan is also knitted with Säie Wool yarn and felt like the perfect companion piece to Ridge, I wanted to call it Brooke.

Recommended ease: approx. 2–8 cm / 0.75–3.25”” of positive ease on the bust (or widest part)
Sample knitted with 6 cm / 2.25” of positive ease on the bust.

Please note that cables tend to pull the fabric in slightly, even if your gauge matches. So, if you’re between sizes, I recommend choosing the larger size.

Approx. 1000 (1100, 1100, 1200) (1300, 1500, 1600) m / 1100 (1200, 1200, 1300) (1400, 1650, 1750) yds of DK-weight yarn.

Sample knitted with: 4 (5, 5, 6) (6, 7, 7) skeins of Säie Wool Merino DK (100% merino, 225–250 m / 250–270 yds / 100 g) in colorway Fog Mr. Fogg.

Needles:

• 5 mm: / US 8 40 cm / 16” and 60 cm / 24” or 80 cm / 32” circular needles (for body and sleeves)
• 3 mm / US 2.5 40 cm / 16” and 60 cm / 24” or 80 cm / 32” circular needles (for ribbing)

Other materials: Removable stitch markers, tapestry needle, scrap yarn or stitch holding cables, double-pointed needle or cable needle.

Gauge: 23 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” in cable pattern from the pattern with 5 mm / US 8 needles (after blocking)

Change the needle size if needed to achieve the right gauge.

Yleiskuvaus neuleesta:
Brooke Logan -neule on elegantti palmikkoneule, jossa ei ole yhtään oikeaa silmukkaa, vaan kaikki oikeat silmukat neulotaan tässä puserossa kiertäen. Tätä ei kannata säikähtää, sillä näyttävästä ulkonäöstään huolimatta neuleen palmikot ovat helppoja ja lopputulos todella palkitsee neulojan. Kierretystä joustinneuleesta taitetut leveät palmikot rytmittävät koko neuletta. Malliltaan neule on hyvin istuva, eikä siinä ole kuin hiukan väljyyttä.

Pusero neulotaan ylhäältä alas: ensin neulotaan takakappale kainaloihin asti tasona, jonka jälkeen silmukat poimitaan etukappaleille vuorollaan takakappaleen aloitussaumasta. Kun etukappale on yhdistetty ja riittävän pitkä, yhdistetään vartalo samoille puikoille ja työtä neulotaan suljettuna neuleena helmaan. Helmaan neulotaan kierretty joustinneuleresori. Silmukat poimitaan hihalta ja hiha neulotaan suljettuna neuleena. Pääntieltä poimitaan lopuksi silmukat kierrettyä joustinneuleresoria varten, joka lopuksi taitetaan ja ommellaan käsin kaksinkerroin työn sisäpuolelle.

Entä mistä nimi Brooke Logan? Lapsuuteni lempi saippuasarjan Kauniiden ja rohkeiden lempihahmoni nimi oli Brooke. Sattumalta suunnittelin Laineen Neuleita Suomesta -julkaisuun talvella 2025 neuleen, jossa käytin myös Säie Woolin lankoja ja jonka nimesin Ridge Forresteriksi (https://ravel.me/ridge-forrester). Brooke Logan on neulottu myöskin Säie Woolin langalla ja ajattelin, että neule sopii mainioksi pariksi Ridge-neuleelle, joten sen nimeksi tuli Brooke.

Suositeltu väljyys: n. 2–8 cm väljyyttä, joten valitse koko, joka on n. 2–8 cm suurempi kuin oma rinnanympäryksesi. Mallineuleessa on 6 cm väljyyttä.

Huomioithan, että palmikot kiristävät neuletta aina hieman kasaan vaikka neuletiheys täsmäisikin, joten jos mietit kahden koon välillä, suosittelen valitsemaan isomman koon.
