Created to match the Bramante cowl, these mittens allow you to learn to add shaping whilst working helically.

Circumference around hand, above thumb: 21cm [8¼in]
Length from cuff to tip: 23cm [9in]

Yarn
Something to Knit With Aran (70% highland wool, 30% superfine alpaca; 82m [89yds] per 50g skein)
Yarn A: Mist 1 x 50g skein
Yarn B: Sky 1 x 50g skein

Needles and notions
1 set 4.5mm [US 7] circular needles, 100cm [40in] long to work magic loop, or double-pointed needles, or needle size required to match tension
Stitch markers
Waste yarn (smooth cotton is ideal)

Tension
19 sts and 25 rows to 10cm [4in] over striped stocking stitch

Pattern notes
The mittens start with a waste yarn cast on and are joined into the round. Helical stripes are then worked before waste yarn is added for an afterthought thumb. Shaping closes the top of the mitten, before stitches are picked up to complete the afterthought thumb. Finally, the waste yarn is carefully removed and an i-cord cast off is worked to complete the mittens.
