This hat and mittens set (both are included in the pattern) feature a textured knit/purl and cabled pattern with a wide ribbed cuff on both. The hat is knit in the round from the brim to the crown and is shaped with decreases that are part of the cabled charts. The mittens have an afterthought thumb and a rounded top.

The samples were knit in a squishy DK weight MCN blend with 235 yards/100 g. If choosing to substitute yarns, choose ones with little or no halo and a nice springiness to help show off the cabled detail to best advantage.

Note the motifs are presented in chart form ONLY.

Blackthorn can be used to make a digestive tea, but was also used in the medieval herbarium as a juice to help soothe inflammations in the mouth and throat. The root bark can be made into an infusion to help reduce fevers.

This item is also included in a 6-part pattern series featuring colorwork and textured patterns for the Wooly Wonka Fibers Herbarium Club 2017. An ebook collection of all the patterns (with patterns released every 2 months during the course of 2017) is also available.
